Z&D Senior Partner Carol J. Patterson Named Real Estate/Construction Law Trailblazer By National Law Journal

(New York, NY – April 16, 2020) Zetlin & De Chiara LLP Senior Partner Carol J. Patterson  has been named to the National Law Journal’s list of Real Estate/Construction Law Trailblazers (2020).

Ms. Patterson was recognized for her illustrious career and recent work as the editor of Construction Law, 2nd edition (2019), the widely used, essential textbook published by the ABA Forum on Construction.

An astute construction industry contract negotiator, advisor and litigator she is a lauded member of the “women in construction” vanguard. The article notes “there were few women construction lawyers in the industry when Patterson started” but that “the balance has shifted.”  During her career, she has negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars in claims, settlements and contracts.  In New York, her experience includes negotiating contracts for the modernization of Lincoln Center, the Javits Center and MoMA, new structures at Hudson Yards and other major projects throughout the metropolitan area.

Most recently, in addition to overseeing critical revisions covering a decade’s worth of change for Construction Law, Ms. Patterson co-authored the chapter “The Design Team’s Role in Contracts,” which focuses on the responsibilities of the practitioners and the legal framework related to the performance of professional design services.

She currently serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Construction Lawyers. She also serves as General Counsel to the New York City Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is affiliated with the American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute and New York Building Congress.

Previously, she served on the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law and served as Chair of the Forum’s Publications Committee and its Diversity Committee. She is also a past president of the Association of Real Estate Women (now the New York City Chapter of CREW).
