Experienced construction litigator brings nearly three decades of industry experience representing owners, contractors, and design professionals

 NEW YORK, NY — March 23, 2026 — Zetlin & De Chiara LLP, a premier construction law firm serving the full spectrum of developers, institutions, design professionals and contractors, has welcomed Nicholas J. Kauffman as a partner in the firm’s New York office.

Kauffman brings nearly three decades of experience representing owners, developers, construction managers, architects and engineers and contractors in complex commercial construction matters. His practice has focused on construction litigation, professional liability defense, risk management counseling and dispute resolution.

“Nick has extensive courtroom litigation experience and his deep understanding of the construction industry makes him a perfect addition to our partnership,” said Michael Vardaro, Managing Partner of Zetlin & De Chiara. “Nick has developed an incredible reputation for being a fierce but practical litigator and providing clients with insightful counsel through negotiating contracts and providing risk management advice.”

Admitted to the New York State Bar in 1996, Kauffman advises clients on a wide range of matters including contract drafting and negotiations, risk management and general business strategies, litigation in state and federal courts, mediation and arbitration. He also represents clients in OSHA matters and administrative hearings before the New York City Department of Buildings and the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.

Kauffman is an experienced lead trial attorney who has secured both jury verdicts and seven-figure settlements on behalf of his clients. He is particularly known for developing early case resolution strategies that help clients reduce litigation exposure and control costs.

Earlier in his career, Kauffman practiced in the New York City and Chicago offices of a national litigation firm, where he coordinated the national defense of product liability cases involving medical products and industrial equipment. In that role, he reviewed claims handled by local defense counsel and developed strategies for early resolution through mediation, working with a network of mediators across the country to resolve hundreds of claims and achieve significant cost savings for clients.
